Click the popCalendar icon in the Mac menu bar. Record your own shortcut in Settings > General to show or hide it. Right-click the icon for today's events, or the next available day's events when today is empty. Today returns the calendar to the current date.
Select and compare dates
Drag to select a range. Hold Option for a rectangle, or Control to add or remove dates and ranges. Combine Control and Option for rectangular changes. Command-Option-drag moves every group together, preserving gaps. Undo and redo support multiple selections. Choose one or two months, one or two years, or a month sidebar from the view menu beside the gear.
Read your selection statistics
Day totals, working days, and event statistics count only selected dates, excluding gaps between groups. Events shows counts, timed duration, occupied time without overlaps, and distinct start times from enabled calendars. Distance and events appear together by default. You can change this in Settings > General.
Save a range or a Calendar Set
Open Planning from the gear menu to save a named selection, choose its color, or follow a countdown. Separate date groups remain intact. Reorder saved selections and Calendar Sets by dragging or sort by name. Search calendars by name or account to build a set.
Find and manage events
Allow calendar access in Settings to show accounts configured on your Mac. Month view shows events across your selected dates. You can also show today, tomorrow, or the next 7 days. Right-click an agenda event to edit, duplicate, copy details, or delete it when allowed. Quick entry accepts your interface language or English. Apple Maps location suggestions require internet. Manual locations work offline.
Make the view your own
Choose an opening layout in General settings and set month and year text sizes separately. Adjust event-circle opacity, use monochrome or calendar colors, or hide circles. In Background, choose an image, clock, date, or text. Clock Gallery offers analog, digital, and hybrid presets with a live preview.
Frequently asked questions
How does the month sidebar work?
Choose Year + Month Sidebar or Two Years + Month Sidebar from the view menu. The sidebar starts at today. A single click on a year date shows that month and selects the day in the sidebar. Browse the sidebar independently without changing the years. Double-clicking a year date still opens month view. The sidebar works in the menu bar popup and detached windows, with its visibility remembered.
Can I use a whole display for my calendar?
Yes. Open New Calendar Window from the gear menu, choose Two Years + Month Sidebar, and enter macOS fullscreen. Resize the sidebar to suit your screen, add a background and clock, and keep daily events beside the long view.
How do reminders work?
Enable optional event or saved-range notifications in Settings. System notifications need macOS permission. Fullscreen reminders use your meeting filter and require popCalendar to be running. Set their display, size, background, opacity, and animation, then join a supported meeting link, snooze, open the event, or dismiss. Event alerts can also be set a number of calendar months in advance, including a month-end option.
Can I hide the menu bar icon?
Yes. Turn off Show menu bar icon in Settings to use calendar windows and the Dock. The icon is enabled by default. The Dock can show today's date while the app is running.
Can I change the app language?
Yes. The app follows macOS by default. Choose a different language in General settings to override it. English, Ukrainian, German, Spanish, and Portuguese are available, including regional Spanish and Portuguese variants.
Can I export a screenshot without selecting dates?
Yes. Open Export Screenshot from the gear menu in any calendar view. PNG filenames include the date and time, so frequent exports are easy to keep. A selected range can also be shared with its summary.
Where can I download popCalendar?
popCalendar is available now on the Mac App Store. Visit the store listing for current pricing and to download the app.
Can I start in month view and see upcoming events?
Yes. General settings offers year, month, two years, two months, year with a month sidebar, two years with a month sidebar, or your last used view. The agenda can show Selected Day, Today, Tomorrow, or Next 7 Days. Upcoming periods stay anchored to today while you browse, and events spanning several days appear once.
How do I switch views and navigate with the keyboard?
Use the view menu beside the gear to choose a layout directly. Click a month heading or double-click a year date to open its month. Command-1 shows the year and Command-2 opens the month for the selected date, or today. Command-Left Arrow and Command-Right Arrow change periods when the grid has focus. Command-T returns to today. Text fields keep their normal editing shortcuts.
Do I need to give it access to my calendars?
No. You can browse dates and measure date ranges without calendar access. Access is only needed to show and edit your events or use existing holiday and time-off calendars in working-day counts.
Does it work with the calendars I already use?
popCalendar displays events from calendar accounts configured on your Mac. It can also hand supported actions to Apple Calendar, Fantastical including its Mini Window, BusyCal, Google Calendar, Outlook.com, or Microsoft 365. External apps must be installed, and web calendars use the account signed in to your browser. Available actions vary by destination. Choosing a destination does not connect or sync an account.
What do the event statistics count?
Statistics use events from enabled calendars on selected dates, excluding gaps between groups. Each occurrence counts once, including all-day events. Total duration adds timed durations on selected dates, counting overlaps separately. Occupied time merges overlaps. Distinct start times counts unique dates and times when timed events begin on selected dates. All-day events add no duration or start times.
Can I see distance and events at the same time?
Yes. Show distance and event statistics together is on by default in Settings > General. With dates selected, the two appear in separate rows. Both count only the selected dates. When the panel is narrow, values that do not fit are hidden instead of squeezing the text.
Can I use a different calendar system?
Yes. Settings > General > Calendar system offers Gregorian, Buddhist, Persian, Islamic civil, and Indian (Saka). Gregorian is the default. Changing the system updates the date grid and labels while keeping your events and saved ranges on the same actual dates. Islamic civil dates are calculated and may differ from local observations.
Can I select dates across two months?
Yes. Choose Two Months from the view menu beside the gear. Drag across months for a range, hold Option for a rectangle, or use Control to add or remove separate dates and groups. Both months share an agenda showing events across selected dates. You can also choose an upcoming agenda period.
Where are my saved ranges and Calendar Sets?
Open Planning from the gear menu to manage named ranges, colors, countdowns, and Calendar Sets. Reorder items by dragging or sort by name. Search calendars by name or account, then select or clear the matches. Use Select Calendar Set in the gear menu to switch sets independently in each window.
Can a saved range repeat every year?
Yes. Saved ranges shorter than a year can repeat annually, including ranges that cross New Year. The month and day pattern stays tied to the calendar system used when it was saved. A date missing in a shorter year uses the final day of that month. Outlines appear each year, and a countdown advances to the next occurrence after the current one ends.
Can I make the calendar more colorful?
Yes. Event circles can be monochrome, calendar-colored, or hidden. Their opacity is adjustable, with monochrome at 50% by default. Distinct calendar colors divide the circle into equal segments. Weekend shading offers three strengths and five colors, with subtle shading by default. Set month and year text sizes separately and adjust weekday and week-number styling.
Can I use an image, clock, or text behind the calendar?
Yes. Choose your image, one of six abstract backgrounds, or random images from a folder. Randomize at startup, on each popup, or from the gear menu. Independently add a clock, today's date, or multiline text. Clock Gallery has 27 analog, digital, and hybrid presets. Analog clocks offer customizable parts and sweeping, ticking, or bouncing seconds. The live preview appears when there is something to display.
Can I create an event using a phrase?
Yes. Local quick entry follows your interface language, with English also available. It supports English, Ukrainian, German, Spanish, and Portuguese, including the app's regional variants. Try "Lunch tomorrow at noon for 45 minutes @ Cafe". Choose Use Details, review the editable draft, and save when ready. Supported phrases include dates, weekdays, time ranges, durations, all-day events, locations, and basic repeats. Parsing alone never saves an event.
Can I edit events and recurring series?
The built-in editor supports dates, freeform or Apple Maps suggested locations, notes, links, basic repeats, and preset or custom alerts in minutes, hours, days, or weeks. Right-click an agenda event to edit, duplicate, copy its details, open it in a supported calendar app, or delete it when its calendar allows changes. Changes to an existing recurring event apply only to the selected occurrence. Use Apple Calendar for invitations, attendees, custom recurrence rules, and whole-series changes.
Can it count working days and holidays?
Yes. Choose your working weekdays, then optionally select holiday or time-off calendars already on your Mac. Their all-day events are excluded from working-day counts, and overlapping days off count once. Holiday calendars are not downloaded automatically. Planning > Select Dates can select a range from a starting date and a number of days or working days.
Can I count a range spanning more than two years?
Yes. The two years shown side by side do not have to be consecutive. Choose the years containing the start and end of your range, then select between them. popCalendar calculates the complete distance, including the years in between. When you change a heading to a year that would reverse the order, the other pane adjusts to keep the earlier year on the left.
Can I move my setup to another Mac?
Yes. Planning > Setup can export and import preferences, saved ranges, your countdown, working-day rules, and Calendar Sets. Calendar references are matched to calendars available on the destination Mac. The file does not contain events, account credentials, calendar permissions, personal background image files, or the launch-at-login setting.
Will it remember where I left off?
Yes. The popup remembers browsing for 10 minutes by default, with other intervals and permanent memory available. Its size can be remembered per display. Detached windows keep their own layouts, dates, selections, sizes, and positions across restarts until you close them. New windows start with the popup's configuration. Keep current month or year always current is enabled by default.
Does popCalendar work offline?
Yes. Date browsing, range calculations, backgrounds, and manual quick entry work offline. Calendar account syncing is handled separately by macOS. Apple Maps location suggestions and online calendar destinations require internet. The app runs in the macOS App Sandbox and does not collect analytics.
Does the app contain ads or analytics?
No. The app does not connect to the developer's servers and contains no advertising or analytics. Your saved ranges and preferences stay on your Mac. Location suggestions go directly to Apple Maps as you type a location. This website uses Plausible analytics separately from the app. See the privacy policy for details.
